Money
How and when do I actually get paid?
By Stripe, every Friday, straight to your bank account: no invoicing, no chasing. You keep 75% of your rate by default (the 25% covers bookings, payments, marketing, parent comms, the video platform and support).
Am I employed by Wild Cats?
No; you're self-employed, tutoring through the platform. We'll point you to a tax basics guide once you're onboarded, but the tax return itself is on you, same as any other self-employed work.
Is the commission rate negotiable?
The standard rate is 25%, published openly rather than buried; see the money breakdown on the main Become a Tutor page. If your experience or specialism justifies a different rate, that's a conversation to have when you apply, not a hidden variable.
PVG & safeguarding
Do I need a PVG to start?
You need one to go live and start taking bookings, but not to apply. If you don't have one yet, or yours has lapsed since you last taught, we guide you through the Disclosure Scotland process rather than leaving you to figure it out alone.
Who handles a difficult conversation with a parent?
We do. If a family raises a concern, a payment dispute, or anything else awkward, that comes to us first; you're not expected to manage it solo.
Your schedule
Who controls my availability?
You do, entirely: your Cal.com calendar is yours. You set your own hours, block out school holidays or a week off, and families can only book the slots you've actually opened up.
Can a student I've been teaching just get reassigned to someone else?
No; a family books your calendar specifically, not a pooled queue. If a family stops booking you, that's their decision, not something we do to you.
What kinds of sessions will I get booked for?
A free 20-minute meet-and-greet after a family's first paid session, standard sessions, a shorter young-learner format (P4–S1), and, if you offer it, a recurring weekly slot.
Can I still tutor elsewhere?
Yes. We don't require exclusivity; plenty of our tutors also teach privately or through other agencies.
The practical stuff
What tech do I need?
Just a browser. Video calls run on Jitsi (meet.jit.si): no downloads, no account for you or the family to set up.
How much of my profile is actually mine to shape?
Your bio is free text, not a rigid template: space to describe how you teach, any specialism (ASN experience, home ed familiarity, exam-board knowledge), and what a typical session with you looks like.
What if I need time off?
Block your Cal.com calendar. Done: no approval process, no admin.
