Advanced Higher Physics: the free resources, and how the exam actually works

Advanced Higher Physics is a genuine step towards university-level content, rotational motion, more advanced electromagnetism, and deeper quantum theory, alongside a significant independent investigation.

• Qualifications Scotland's own past papers and marking instructions: free and official, and at this level especially, worth working through as many as you can find.
• Isaac Science (formerly Isaac Physics): free, Cambridge-built, genuinely reaches university-entry-level physics problems, well matched to Advanced Higher's own depth.
• IOPSpark: free, from the Institute of Physics, physics's own professional body.
• PhET Interactive Simulations: free, University of Colorado Boulder, useful for visualising rotational motion and quantum phenomena.
• Khan Academy: free, non-profit, has genuinely university-adjacent physics content worth using for background.

How Advanced Higher Physics is actually assessed, in plain terms: a written question paper alongside a project (an independent investigation), both contributing to the final grade (A to D). Exact structure and the project's submission date are set by Qualifications Scotland (which replaced the SQA in February 2026), so the Advanced Higher Physics course page on its own site is worth checking directly, particularly the project deadline.

How markers actually award marks still matters here, correct working and formula selection can earn marks even with a small slip at the end, but only if it's actually shown.
